How Revolutionary is Your Practice?
It’s nearly the end of Navratri ~ the nine nights celebrating the Goddess Durga - and I think I’m feeling her rising within. In the last few days I’ve had conversations about how we are practicing yoga, whether we’re actually allowing the practices their true potency of change.
I am absolutely convinced that deep yoga practice can be revolutionary and challenge the whole paradigm we live in. We live in a world which constantly reaffirms what we in Tantric teachings know as the three Malas (no, not the kind with pretty gemstones!). The malas are veils which cover our true seeing. In very brief terms these are the misunderstandings of ‘I am not worthy’, ‘I’m not doing enough’ and ‘I am separate‘. Sound familiar?
Our practice helps us to remove these veils and come into clear seeing of the fullness of our Being. If we truly experience wholeness then why would we need to buy into any of the cultural messaging which keeps telling us that we are not enough as we are??
But what if we just keep practicing yoga with the same attitude as everything else? What if we just stay in the same continuous loop of judgement and reaffirmation of unworthiness and separateness? ‘I’m not doing it right, I don’t look right in my fancy yoga leggings, I’m not as good at yoga as I should be, I’ll never be flexible enough, I’ll never be as cool as those other yogis..’ etc etc etc...
It is my deep wish that we embrace the truly transformative power these incredible practices hold. It is my prayer that every one of us may deeply experience the feeling of being enough, having everything we need within and knowing we are all connected.
May it be so.
